Cookie Policy
This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on the Halcyon website, why we use them and how you can manage your preferences.
Last updated: 24 April 2025
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit it. They serve a range of functions: some are needed for the site to work correctly, while others help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Cookies can also be used to remember preferences you have set during a visit.
This site also uses browser localStorage — a similar mechanism built into modern browsers — to store your cookie preferences. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is not transmitted to our server with each request; it stays in your browser.
2. How We Store Your Preferences
When you interact with the cookie preference panel on this site, your choices are saved in your browser's localStorage under the following keys:
3. Preference Storage Keys
The following localStorage keys are used by this site to record and manage your cookie preferences:
These localStorage entries do not contain any personally identifiable information. They exist solely to record your preference choices and avoid presenting the cookie preference panel on every visit.
4. Third-Party Cookies
This site uses Google Fonts for typography, which may result in a request to Google's servers when the page loads. Google may set cookies in connection with this request. We do not control these cookies. You can review Google's cookie and privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
This site also loads Font Awesome icons from Cloudflare's CDN, which may log requests. Cloudflare's privacy policy is available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Where analytics or marketing tools are enabled and in use, those tools may set their own cookies. Any such tools in use will be identified here as they are adopted.
5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You can update your cookie preferences at any time by clearing the relevant localStorage entries in your browser. In most browsers, you can do this through the browser's developer tools, the privacy or storage settings, or by clearing your site data. Clearing localStorage will cause the cookie preference panel to appear again on your next visit, allowing you to set new preferences.
You can also configure your browser to block or delete cookies at a browser level. The process varies by browser:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
Blocking all cookies may affect the functionality of this and other websites you visit.
6. Do Not Track
Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" setting that signals websites you visit that you prefer not to be tracked. There is currently no agreed standard for how websites should respond to this signal. Our site does not alter its behaviour in response to Do Not Track signals, but we will review this as standards develop.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or applicable requirements. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. If we make material changes that affect how we use data, we will update the version key stored in your browser's localStorage so that the preference panel is displayed again, giving you the opportunity to review your choices.
